{"id":242499,"date":"2014-06-15T15:07:24","date_gmt":"2014-06-15T19:07:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/d-interventions.com\/wp\/?p=19"},"modified":"2014-06-15T15:07:24","modified_gmt":"2014-06-15T19:07:24","slug":"first-step-in-building-your-own-website","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/d-interventions.com\/di\/first-step-in-building-your-own-website\/","title":{"rendered":"First step in building your own website"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Before you shop for software, before you go on line and read about ease of updating, before you shop for templates or themes, before you do anything involving a computer you have to first think about who is going to buy your products. \u00a0I use the term\u00a0<em>buy\u00a0your product<\/em> to mean who is going to be engaging in your\u00a0website to\u00a0buy your product, read your information, or enjoy your jokes or call your store to get more information.<\/p>\n<p>You have to think long and hard about who \u00a0your audience is. \u00a0Not everyone will be interested in you. \u00a0\u00a0Choose by demographic, hobbies, shopping habits,\u00a0age, anything you can think of that differentiates your customer from everyone else. \u00a0The more you can streamline your target the better your message will be. This is not a quick process. There are books and podcasts\u00a0\u00a0that can help you\u00a0find you get started. I recommend Seth Godin, Bradley Sugars, Jeffrey Gitomer or Brian Tracy as good places to start. \u00a0It&#8217;s good to think of an individual person, real or imaginary, that has the specific characteristics of your target audience. \u00a0Name that person. List everything that makes them unique. \u00a0Then you can have a face that goes along with your target. I&#8217;ve created a fictitious target: Lauren to use as an example. \u00a0When making a decision ask yourself, \u00a0&#8220;would Lauren like this?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/d-interventions.com\/di\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/lauren.png\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-20\" src=\"https:\/\/d-interventions.com\/di\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/lauren-300x200.png\" alt=\"lauren\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll be amazed at how much easier it is\u00a0to picture someone specific when making decisions.<\/p>\n<p>OK, \u00a0once you have a target audience you should find out everything that will work to peak the interest of that audience. \u00a0Shopping habits, trends, buzz words, motivators, past hobbies, you get the idea. \u00a0You can start online by Googling simply phrases like: Shopping habits of millennials, or online habits of baby boomers. \u00a0It&#8217;s a good place to start and it will get the ball rolling and your thoughts moving.<\/p>\n<p>From there you need to tailor your design ideas to that specific target audience. \u00a0Don&#8217;t pick colors <em>you<\/em> like or photos that motivate <em>you<\/em>. \u00a0Pick those that motivate your target audience. \u00a0 This is harder than you think.<\/p>\n<p>Remember you&#8217;ve got to make sure the people you want to see your message are the ones that are seeing it and are called to action to purchase, learn or inquire about your product.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Before you shop for software, before you go on line and read about ease of updating, before you shop for templates or themes, before you do anything involving a computer you have to first think about who is going to buy your products. \u00a0I use the term\u00a0buy\u00a0your product to mean who is going to be [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[20],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-242499","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-website-design"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.0 -
